"Why Trouble Yourself Painting Clouds / When the Sky Churns out Hits for Sold Out Crowds?" is a show of Sprengelmeyer's work from 2016 - 2020. Pareidolia, or perceiving faces or patterns in inanimate objects, is one of the solidifying themes across the paintings, ranging in size from just a few inches to 8 feet wide. Faces appear in clouds, a monk in robes emerges from stalagmites in a cave, and living shadows stretch from characters contemplating strange weather. Layers of oil paint take on their own sculptural form, and curious objects fall from skies that are both foreboding and playful. Dancing between realism and stylisation, these paintings reflect both the surreal apprehension and magic potential of our times." - Galerie Plus November, 2020
